A Simple Prayer for Everyday Life | Asking God to Direct Your Steps

For those of you who are regular visitors to Old Soul Retro, you may have noticed things have blossomed around here. What started as a hobby fifteen years ago has come full circle.

Old Soul Retro has always been about things worth treasuring. Through the years, I have shared many memories and traditions through visuals and writings. As I have matured, I have come to realize that the treasured things in life encompass so much more. I've grown to discover the importance of the things that nourish the soul and matter most.

The heart and soul of Old Soul Retro has blossomed. Memories. Traditions. Family. Faith. These are the things I treasure and find joy in sharing with you.

Life can keep you busy and distracted. Between all the to-do lists, unanswered text messages, and emails, there is always something that needs our attention.

Sometimes it's those little quiet moments that can set the tone for the whole day.

One of my favourite moments of peace comes as I pull out of the driveway and begin my day. As I set off down the road, I try to remember to include God in my day and my journey. I know He is always there, eager and waiting for me to acknowledge Him.

A Simple Scripture Prayer

A simple prayer that I often speak out loud in the car is based on Psalm 119:133. I especially like how the Amplified Bible expresses it.

"Establish my footsteps in the way of Your word; Do not let any human weakness have power over me [causing me to be separated from You]."

My scripture prayer is simple:

"Heavenly Father, order and direct my steps and keep me in Your perfect timing. Help me to reflect You in all I do and say. Give me the right words at the right time and protect me as I go about my day. Thank You for all Your blessings and for the precious gift of salvation. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen."

After saying this prayer, I feel I have set the tone for the rest of my day. There is a peacefulness and assurance that washes over me. And I am ready, with God by my side, to tackle whatever comes my way.

Finding Peace in God's Direction

What really gives me peace is knowing that God has already been there. He knows the beginning, the middle, and the end of my day. Time is of no consequence to Him. He has formed every moment, just as He has formed me. Knowing this strengthens me and reminds me that, with His help, I can face whatever the day has in store.

When unexpected interruptions arise, He already knows. When plans change, He already knows. When opportunities appear that I never could have arranged myself, He already knows. There is great comfort in remembering that I am not walking into the unknown alone.

The simple act of acknowledging Him puts everything else into its proper perspective. The pressures of the day seem a little lighter. The distractions seem a little less important. My focus shifts from everything I have to do, to the One who is walking beside me through it all.

A Scripture to Remember

I am reminded of another scripture from Proverbs 3:6:

"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

It is such a simple instruction, yet one that can transform an ordinary day. A brief prayer spoken in faith. A quiet moment of acknowledgement. An invitation for God to lead the way.

And perhaps that is all we need sometimes—not a long prayer or a perfect plan, but simply a willing heart that says, "Lord, direct my steps today."
