Happy New Year Old Souls ! To help you ring in the new year here are some beloved retro cocktail recipes from the 1950s. These retro alcoholic drinks were popular back in the day. The fifties hostess would often serve up punch for New Year's Eve parties. While husbands would bar tend to their guests serving up these retro new years drinks. Hope you enjoy these vintage cocktail classics. Cheers!

RETRO "MARTINI" RECIPE
2 oz. gin 2/3 oz. dry vermouth
Stir with cracked ice, pour into cocktail glass, Olive, onion, or
lemon peel may be used. Makes 1.
Vodka can be substituted for vermouth—but watch out!
RETRO "MANHATTAN" RECIPE
2 oz. rye 2 dashes Angostura bitters
3/4 oz. sweet vermouth
Stir with cracked ice. Serve in cocktail glass with cherry.
RETRO "WARD EIGHT" RECIPE
1 jigger rye (1 1/2 oz.) juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 oz. grenadine 1/4 oz orange juice
Shake with ice and serve in tall glass with cracked ice. Add cherry
and slice of orange and fill glass with club soda.
RETRO "STINGER" RECIPE
2 jiggers brandy 1 jigger white créme de
menthe
Shake hard with cracked ice and pour into cocktail glass.
RETRO "RUM SPECIAL" RECIPE
1 oz. light rum 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 oz. dark rum (scant)
juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
Shake with cracked ice and pour into cocktail glass.
RETRO "NEW YEAR'S PUNCH" RECIPE
2 quarts champagne Juice of 1 dozen lemons
1 quart gin 1 quart pineapple ice
1 quart carbonated water green and red maraschino
cherries
Chill all liquids for at least 6 hours. Place pineapple ice in upright
position in center of punch bowl and stud with red and green
cherries. Pour all other ingredients in bowl and ladle over the
pineapple ice several times to absorb the flavor.
RETRO "TOM AND JERRY" RECIPE
1 egg, separated 3/4 ounce Jamaica rum
1 tablespoon granulated sugar 3/4 ounce brandy or rye
Beat egg yolk. Beat egg white and sugar and then combine with
yolk in china mug. Add rum and brandy or whisky and fill with
boiling water. Stir and serve with a dash of nutmeg.
RETRO "EGGNOG" RECIPE
1 egg 2 ounces brandy
1 teaspoon granulated sugar 8 ounces top milk or light cream
Combine ingredients. Shake and strain into tall glass. Sprinkle
nutmeg over the top. Port, rum, sherry, or bourbon can be substituted for the brandy.
RETRO "WHISKY SOUR" RECIPE
2 ounces whisky 1 teaspoon sugar
juice of 1/2 lemon
Shake with cracked ice and pour into small glass, or use same
amount in large glass, add ice, fill with carbonated water (on the
rocks).
